Als begabter Redner seiner Partei gegen die in den 1920er Jahren erstarkende NSDAP und als kämpferischer Publizist wurde er bald bekannt. Seit 1929 Mitglied im Augsburger Stadtrat, seit 1932 Abgeordneter der SPD im Deutschen Reichstag; zusammen mit der SPD-Fraktion stimmte F. am 23. März 1933 gegen Hitlers Ermächtigungsgesetz; von November 1934 bis Januar 1936 war er im KZ Dachau inhaftiert. Im Mai 1946 erhielt F. von der amerikanischen Militärregierung die Lizenz zur Herausgabe des „Südost-Kuriers“ in Bad Reichenhall, den er als Chefredakteur bis Dezember 1954 leitete.<br /> Felders „Südost-Kurier“ trug mit kritischen Beiträgen, überregionaler politischer Information und dem seinerzeit eher seltenen Blick auf die Jahre des NS-Regimes zur Erneuerung der Demokratie nach 1945 bei.<br /> Von 1955 bis 1957 wirkte F. als Chefredakteur des sozialdemokratischen „Vorwärts“, von 1957 bis 1969 war er Abgeordneter der SPD im Deutschen Bundestag.<br /> <br /> == Literatur ==<br /> <br /> Josef Felder: Warum ich NEIN sagte.
